HELLO FELLOW READERS & BLOGGERS! This new year's post is long overdue and I sincerely apologize. For awhile I was contemplating on which subject to begin the year on and then I remembered a resolution from last year that I failed to continue throughout 2015, so I decided to make my first post of 2016 honoring my resolution of 2015. Last year I said I'd contribute more artwork and writing and explore my hobbies more and I honestly did such a terrible job on holding my end to the promise. But 2016 is going to be different (I hope!)
So what artwork am I presenting you with today? Sketches, paintings, prose? Nope. This new year is the year of Photography! I'm not going to self-declare myself a "photographer" because I haven't even grasped the bare minimum basics of photographing, and not to mention: I don't have a professional camera. However, I do enjoy the creative intimacy that seems to envelope with each photograph.
I began a series of photographs that emphasize details and intricacy of every day objects that we pass by without really looking at. I'm talking concrete, walls, sidewalks, trees -- the basic of the basics! It's these overlooked objects that draw the most attention from me. I've always been the introverted, shy girl who spent most of her adolescence looking down and to the sides of my environment (all in avoidance of people) and observing all the little things and taking note of them. This really is a photograph series of my social anxiety because I take them in moments where I feel self-conscious and my eyes wander to distract from whatever is happening around me. But it's really amazing how I've turned this insecurity into an art form that is (hopefully) appreciated and beautified it! *Not to say that anxiety should be romanticized but in my case in particular, it helps to look back and realize that Everything Is Okay.
So here's what I have so far. I captioned any photos that had interesting backstories to them, other than that, it's as direct as it can get. I'll be sure to keep you updated with my college adventures and be on the look out for an upcoming outfit post!
